Compliance Requirements and Complio

For the safety of our community and patients, Goldfarb School of Nursing requires various immunizations, tests, and certifications. Goldfarb tracks these requirements through a program called Complio. This document outlines how to create your Complio account and how to complete the required compliance items. Please read this document carefully and in its entirety.

Creating a Complio Account

Go to the Goldfarb Complio website and follow these steps:

  • Select “create account” on the top menu bar.
  • Provide your personal and contact information to create your account.
  • Go to the email account used to set-up your Complio account and click the link in the activation email to finish setting up your account.
  • Now that your account is created, login to Complio.
  • Once you’ve logged in you will be prompted to select a screening package. Select your program of study and select load package. Students studying in the Upper Division Undergraduate program will need to select “Traditional BSN”.
  • After selecting the program, you will see a breakdown of the order. Select all three items: Tracking package, drug screen, and background check.

We highly recommend that you change your email address in your Complio account to your Goldfarb email when you receive it. This ensures that you will get all Complio notifications for items that are due soon. When items become overdue, this may result in missed class, lab, or clinical time.

Compliance Requirements

Proof of immunizations must include your printed or typed full name, vaccine administration date, or titer result date. Prescriptions, paid receipts, high school records, or handwritten notes will not be accepted. All documents must be submitted and approved in Complio by the designated deadlines. Do not send your documents to staff at Goldfarb as they cannot approve or submit these documents for you.

Many of the immunizations and tests can be obtained for free or at cost at the Barnes Jewish Hospital Occupational Health office:

Mid Campus Center
3rd floor, 4590 Children’s Place
St. Louis, MO 63110

Phone: 314-454-7002
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m.

Please call the office if you want information about vaccine availability, titers, tests, and cost.

Background check and urine drug screen

You must complete and pass a background check and a 16-panel urine drug screen according to the regulations established by the hospitals and clinical agencies students are learning within, and the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The background check is completed when you purchase your Complio package. When you register for your Complio package you can select a location to complete your urine drug screen.

A clear background check and negative drug screening is required to matriculate and remain in our nursing programs. These requirements ensure you are not prevented placement in a clinical setting or have difficulty obtaining professional licensure or certification.

Any issues found on the background check, or urine drug screen, will be reviewed by the admissions department for further action.

We advise you to check your Complio account and the email you used to create the account frequently after purchasing, as Complio may send action items that need to be completed to finalize your background check. Failure to respond will result in a cancelled background check and a new one will have to be purchased.

Tuberculosis (TB) testing

A negative two-step TB skin test or an Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) blood test completed in the past six months is required.

A two-step TB skin test consists of two separate skin tests administered one to three weeks apart. The two-step TB test can be obtained for free through BJC Occupational Health. If you have had a positive TB test in the past, you need to submit the previous positive TB test result, results of a clear chest x-ray dated after the positive TB test, and a completed BJC TB symptom screening form. Please email [email protected] for the screening form.

Annual TB testing is required for all programs except the nurse anesthesia program. The nurse anesthesia program requires a one-step TB skin test or IGRA blood test one year after your initial admission screening.

BJC Occupational Health do not do TB skin tests on Thursdays and Fridays. TB skin tests or blood tests can’t be done within 28 days of a live vaccine.

Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)

Two MMR vaccinations administered at least 28 days apart or a positive titer for measles, mumps, and rubella are required. If the measles or mumps titer is negative and you haven’t had an MMR vaccine you will need two MMR vaccines. If the titer is negative and you’ve been vaccinated for MMR in the past, you will need one MMR vaccine. If your rubella titer is the only negative titer, you will need one MMR vaccination.

Please call BJC Occupational Health for cost and availability. Please note that MMR vaccinations are live vaccines so a TB skin test cannot be completed for 28 days after an MMR vaccine.

Hepatitis B

Three Hepatitis B vaccinations or a positive titer are required. Your first vaccine must be completed before week five of your first term. Your second vaccine should be given 30 days after your first vaccine, and your third vaccine should be given five months after your second vaccine.

If the titer is negative, a fourth Hepatitis B vaccination is required followed by a titer recheck one month later. If the titer is still negative, you will need a fifth and sixth vaccine followed by a recheck titer one month later.

Hepatitis B vaccinations and titers are available at BJC Occupational Health. Please call for cost and availability.

Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap)

A Tdap vaccine dated within the past 10 years or a Td (Tetanus & Diphtheria) and Pertussis vaccines both dated within the past 10 years are required.

Tdap vaccines are available at BJC Occupational Health. Please call for cost and availability.

Varicella (Chickenpox)

Two doses of a varicella-containing vaccine (e.g., Varivax or MMRV) or a positive titer are required. History of chickenpox disease is not accepted.

If the titer is negative or equivocal and you do not have previous varicella-containing vaccinations, two varicella vaccinations are required. If the titer is negative or equivocal and you have one varicella-containing vaccination, one varicella vaccination is required for a total of two varicella vaccinations.

Varicella vaccinations and titers are available at BJC Occupational Health. Please call for cost and availability. Please note that varicella vaccinations are live vaccines so a TB skin test cannot be done for 28 days after your vaccine.
